Press release For immediate publication
Gaspé, October 31, 2011. – The Gaspé Campus of the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles has introduced an Adventure-Study stream, unique in Québec, that gives students the opportunity to combine their studies with the practice of outdoor sports. Students enrolling in the Social Science and Natural Science programs in the fall 2012 term will be able to sign up for this new stream, which is similar to the existing Sport-Study stream. Students enrolled in this stream will have their usual classes from Monday morning to Friday noon, before setting off on expeditions on Friday afternoons. Supported by experienced and passionate instructors, they will practice a variety of sports and, depending on the options they choose, will qualify for certain sport-related certifications. They will notably be able to try out kite surfing, avalanche rescue, rafting, scuba diving, off-trail skiing, etc. A resource person will be assigned exclusively to oversee groups of up to 24 students, to help them adapt to their new environment and succeed in their studies. This stream is primarily designed to encourage more students from major urban centres to enrol here. Already, 41 young people from urban centres study in Gaspé. - 30 - Source: Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles Information: Isabelle Vilchenon, Communication Advisor News
