Just what is it?

This is a unique initiative in Québec that gives you the chance to complete a program in Social Science or Natural Science, practice a number of outdoor activities and even qualify for sport certifications!

In addition to your pre-university program, you will have a weekly activity like kite-surfing or rafting, with the support of experienced and passionate instructors. In fact, a resource will be available to help you get used to the town and the region, and to accompany you throughout the year.

At the end of your program, you will have the opportunity to organise your own major project and set off on the outdoor excursion of your dreams!

Equipment required

Equipment provided by the College for this stream

The Adventure-Study stream is proud to meet some of its students’ material needs. The equipment is of good quality and suitable for the requirements of an expedition. We recognise that any outdoor material is costly to buy, which is why we lend our students most of the material they need for the courses. Here are a few examples of what we provide:

Sea kayaks (solo and tandem) and related equipment (PFDs, helmets, spray skirts, paddles, paddle floats, pumps, tow bags, marine compasses, waterproof bags)
White-water canoes and related equipment (PFDs, helmets, paddles, rope bags, bailers, watertight barrels)
Rafts
Wet suits (bib wetsuits and jackets) and paddling anoraks
Camping material (ground pads, sleeping bags -7ºC, -18ºC and -32ºC, bivouac, four-season tents, tarps, burners and cooking gear)
Expedition backpacks

As you can see, you will be provided with equipment that normally comes with a hefty price tag. Just wait till you see the equipment rental room! It is important to point out that you will also have to get some of your material before you start your program.

Mandatory equipment you need to acquire

3-5 pairs of wool or synthetic wool sock
1-2 pair underwear of synthetic material (top and pants)
1 polar fleece (medium weight) insulating outfit (top and pants)
1 long-sleeve insulated jacket (down, minimum 700 loft)

* Clothing: Please do not buy any clothing made of cotton. Wool, polypropylene, or other synthetic materials are highly suitable to for outdoor activities.

** Hiking boots: Don’t hesitate to invest in tough, quality boots. You will be using them often. We suggest a medium-weight hiking boot suitable for trekking in a variety of weather conditions.
