
Claude Berger, Forest Engineer (1995 to today)
Training : Graduate of Université Laval's Forest Engineering Program, Forest Operations Option, in 1994. He also holds a certified timber scaler's card issued by the ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune.
Field of expertise : Since his arrival at the College, Claude Bergr has taught his classes in both English and French. His areas of teaching expertise essentially include such courses as Forest Operations, Forest Operations - Project, Forest Infrastructure, Timber Scaling, Forst Inventory, Forest Planning and Practical Assignments. As a teacher, Claude Berger has also been involved in adult education, by offering made-to-measure courses in Forest Legislation in Carleton-sur_mer, Timber Scaling in Ste-Anne-des-Monts, and Forst Roads in th Outaouais as well as teaching specialised courses to students enrolled in the Wind Turbine Maintenance Program in Gaspé.
Professional experience : He has been a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs forestiers du Québec since 1994. From 2000 to 2002, he worked for the CRCD Gaspésie-Les Îles, overseeing the forest resource development program and where he was responsible for coordinating the proper advancement of all multiple-resource projects underway on the Gaspé Péninsula. He has also been a part-time forest consultant for a private enterprise since 2003.
Pubilications : He contributed to two research projects on the dynamics of trembling aspen in 2003 and 2004.
Other related activities : He has participated in a variety of student activities including the Jeux forestiers in Québec City, DEMO 1996 in Québec City, a forest inventory with Parks Canada in the Mauricie, an exploratory field trip to New Brunswick and another to the Lower St. Lawrence model forest.

Gilles Fortier, Forest Engineer (1976 to today)
Training: Bachelor's degree in Forest Engineering, Université Laval, 1976; graduate studies (Master's) in Renewable Resources (UQAC), Certificate in Professional Education (UQAR).
Field of Expertise: The use of forest geomatics, the study of forest insects, integrated management of the various resources in the forest, the study of trees.
Professional experience: A teacher at the college for some thirty years, he has also been actively involved with various committees and associations connected to the integrated management of forest resources. He has also written several articles on the forest and done research work in forest ecology. For over ten years, he worked to organize exchanges with forestry students from France.
Further Training: Tree lift and pruning, first aid, using digital maps, forest ecology, forest evaluation, forest inventory, Sugar Bush decline, reforestation, rational pesticide use, forest geomatics, using distance learning technologies, health and safety, etc.

Sylvain Fortin, Forest Engineer, M.Sc. and doctoral student in Environmental Science (UQAC), experienced teacher, forester and researcher (1978 to today)
Training: B.Sc.a. Forest Engineering, Université Laval, 1978; Certificate in Education Science, UQAR, 1987; M. Sc. in Renewable Resources, UQAC, 1999; Ph.D. in Environmental Science, underway.
Field of expertise: Environment (socio-economic issues, sustainable use of resources, integrated management); Forestry (Planning, plans and reports, mapping, silvicultural objectives, integrated management); Research (forest history, forest ecology, auto-ecology of the trembling aspen, white pine, red oak and eastern white cedar, applied silviculture, regeneration mechanisms, regional biodiversity, woodland caribou, etc.).
Professional experience: Forest consultant (1986-1998); Teacher of a variety of courses in the Forest Management Technology Program (1978-….); Research activities (1999-….); General Manager of the Consortium en foresterie Gaspésie / les Îles (2003-2005); Forest sector expert assisting with a review of forestry and wood processing teaching programs in Region IX, Chile (2006-2007); Commissioner with the Commission régionale de gestion des ressources naturelles et du territoire (2007-….)
Publications: He has contributed to over 30 documents associated with research, training or knowledge-sharing activities.
Presentations and conferences: He has participated in conferences and presentations associated with forest research in several areas of Canada, Western United States, Finland, Russia, Chile and Argentina.

Bruce Jones, Forest Engineer (1986 to today)
Training: Bachelor’s degree in Forest and Wildlife Science, University of New Brunswick, 1985.
Field of expertise: He has specialised in courses connected to integrated resource management. How can the forest be used for other purposes than simply the timber it holds? How does wildlife react to human intervention in the forest? Bruce Jones discusses these issues and many others in the Integrated resource management courses he teaches. He also teaches an Introduction to Forest Trades course. “We no longer fell the forest, we manage it,” he says. Finally, his areas of expertise as a teacher also include other subjects like the behaviour of forest fires and suppression methods and forest ecology.
Professional experience: Bruce Jones began teaching in the Forest Management Technology Department at the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles in Gaspé in 1986. He also worked in forest management in the private forest from 1986 to 2005. Because of this, he can transmit to his students the experience and knowledge acquired over these many years. Finally, he owns a forest-related enterprise that produces decorative articles from the forest. Moreover, he sits on the boards of directors of a variety of organisations active in the Gaspé forest environment and economy.

Luc Méthot, Forest Engineer, M.Sc. (1994 to today)
Training: Luc Méthot holds a bachelor’s degree in Forest Engineering, Forest Operations Option(1992) and a master’s degree in Forest Science earned at Université Laval (1994).
Field of expertise: Luc Méthot notably teaches the following courses: Tree Measurement, Timber Scaling, Forest Inventory Techniques, Forest Infrastructure and Applied Software in Forestry.
Professional experience: Luc Méthot has been a forest engineer since 1992. He has also worked as a research assistant for the Forest Engineering Research Institute of Canada (FERIC) where he first conducted forest research. For over four years, he has been a teacher in the Forest Management Technology Department at the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles, a position he still holds today. From 1998 to 2005, he coordinated the work of the Unité de transfert technologique de la Gaspésie / Îles, an organisation dedicated to the identification of needs in the area of forest research and knowledge transfer. Luc Méthot also coordinated the work of the Comité régional permanent sur la gestion intégrée des ressources naturelles from 2002 to 2005.

Lucie Thibodeau, Forest Engineer, M.Sc. (1995 to today)
Training: Bachelor’s degree in Forest Engineering from Université Laval (1993) and a master’s degree in Forest Science (1995). Recipient of the FCAR Bursary FCAR (Fonds pour la formation de chercheurs et l’aide à la recherche) and the AFDU-Québec Bursary (Fondation de l’association des femmes diplômées des universités) while at university, she never hesitates to encourage young women to pursue higher education.
Field of expertise: She has taught in the English sector in the Forest Management Technology Department since January 1995. Her specialties include mapping, orientation (GPS and compass) and the use of geographic information systems.
Other related activities: In 2003, she coordinated an innovative project that aimed to encourage women to access jobs traditionally held by men. She has participated in a number of student activities within the department, including organising a student trip to British Columbia, organising the participation and management of a student team working on a Parks Canada inventory project at Grosse Île, and participating in the Jeux forestiers that were part of the Salon forestier in Québec City.

Yvan Gagnon, Forest Engineer, (1991 to today)
Training: Bachelor’s degree in Forest Engineering, Timber Science and Technology Option, from Université Laval in 1989. He completed a teaching certificate and studied in the master’s program in Renewable Resources. He also holds a timber scaler’s card.
Field of expertise: Yvan Gagnon teaches in the French sector in the Forest Management Technology Department. His areas of teaching expertise essentially include such courses as Orientation, Mapping, Timber Scaling, Plant Identification and Forest Ecology. As a teacher, Yvan Gagnon has also been involved in managing the Gaspé Peninsula teaching and research forest.
Professional experience: He has been a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs forestiers du Québec since 1991. From 1989 to 1991, he worked primarily in the area of wood processing; he also works part time as a forest consultant and since 1996, has served an Aboriginal community as a consultant.
Publications: He has contributed to a few research projects including: trembling aspen girdling on the Gaspé Peninsula (2004-2005), the ecology of the American black ash (2005-2007) and the identification of the Gaspé shrew (2006).
Other related activities: He organised and participated in the Carrefour de la recherche forestière in 2004 and a number of student field trips, including one to Western Canada in March 1994. He also served as an administrator of the Société d'horticulture et d’écologie de Gaspé in 2005.
